Topic | Stop Taxing Charities |
Content | Charities generally assist the poor and provide other benefits for the public good, while saving the state and taxpayers millions of dollars ---by providing services that would otherwise need to be performed by government(s). Yet Oklahoma has elected to impose indirect forms of taxation on charities. As an example, our Oklahoma charity (NPI), originally incorporated in New Mexico, must pay an annual $100.00 "fee" to retain the Oklahoma Secretary of State as its registered agent. Despite the "clever" use of language, this fee is an indirect tax on our charities initially formed outside of Oklahoma. Other forms of indirect taxes (on all charities) are being explored, and all these will damage the public interest. |
